When you love someone like our Gram, Kathleen, it’s hard to know where to begin. There is simply too much to say. She was beautifully complex, intelligent, caring, funny, and deeply devoted to the people she loved. Gram was my best friend and someone I admired my entire life. Her door was always open to anyone who needed somewhere to go (even the occasional raccoon), and if you were coming home, you could count on her having gone out to buy your favorite foods. She loved her children fiercely, adored her grandchildren, and was endlessly proud of her family.

Whenever I felt unsure or needed guidance, Gram would joke that she wished she had proverbs to give me, like the women in The Joy Luck Club. What she never realized was that she did. Her wisdom was in the way she lived, in the way she loved, welcomed, cared for, and showed up for the people around her.

We walk in memory of our beautiful Kathleen and in hope that one day, no family will have to lose someone they love to pancreatic cancer. With every step, we carry her with us. The incredible mother, loving grandmother, and unforgettable woman we were so incredibly lucky to know and love.
