Long Island Walk

I'm fundraising for...Laura Polen as well as all of the survivors and those who have lost their battle with pancreatic cancer

This past summer, I worked at a local day camp. Every day I wore my purple LP Crew Awareness bracelet around my wrist. In fact, I sometimes actually wore 3 at a time; it’s like my security blanket. 

Anyway, one day one of my campers asked me about my bracelets. Why did I wear them? What were they for? Instinctively, I told the little boy that they were my special bracelets that gave me power, like a superhero. And when I wear them I feel like I can do anything. Satisfied with my answer, we “flew” like  superheroes over to the camp activity and everyone was happy.

Later on, I thought about what had happened and realized that the bracelets  actually were a source of power for me. Wearing them on my wrist every day gives me the strength I need to move forward with my mission to raise awareness  about pancreatic cancer. It also is a constant reminder of my mother, my hero, Laura Polen, who passed away from pancreatic cancer almost 5 years ago. Her endless positive energy and attitude was remarkable. Her determination was envied by others and she inspired people around her with her upbeat and full of life attitude. She continues to be my source of energy everyday.

Please join me on Sunday October 6, 2024 at Jones Beach, Field #5, for Lustgarten's Walk for Research; be part of the community united in the vision to transform pancreatic cancer into a curable disease. Team LP Crew will be there once again showing our support for all those whose lives have been affected by pancreatic cancer.

Team LP Crew is the team name my family created in 2016 shortly after my mother's shocking pancreatic cancer diagnosis. This will be our 9th year together and we are excited for you to join our team and the thousands of others whose lives have been touched by pancreatic cancer. We have found strength in knowing that we are not walking alone. We also walk to help raise funds to support the amazing research that is being done to help find new treatments and, one day, a cure for pancreatic cancer.

Keep her name alive and her legacy will live on forever. Her strength will guide you and allow you to move past even the hardest of days.
