We're fundraising in memory of Vickie
At the end of June our family heard the devastating news that my mom (Vickie) had pancreatic cancer. A little over a month later she passed due to a cardiac arrest. She was never even given a chance to fight. She was brushed aside by those that were supposed to be helping her. She was told that she had nothing to worry about and that she'd be fine. Yet treatments weren't being scheduled and care wasn't being given. Her scans showed that her condition kept getting worse, we advocated for her every chance we could get and she still didn't receive the treatments she needed.
Pancreatic cancer isn't a fair fight. It's hard to diagnose and hard to find Doctors that know how to treat it. Moms journey for a diagnosis started 4 months before it was actually determined. And after diagnosis it was growing and spreading so fast that we honestly weren't sure what to do to help her.
It's too late for Vickie, but we know she would want us to keep advocating for others now. So that hopefully no one else will feel how she did for that last month of her life. She was in pain, she was scared and confused, and she felt helpless. Which was painful for us to all witness.
Now we walk with hopes of earlier detection for others, better access to screenings for those at risk, and quicker action for treatment for those who need it.
We walk with love in our hearts for an amazing woman who was taken far too soon.
