Westchester Walk

I'm fundraising for...

Dear Friends & Family,

On behalf of the Kalt and Schiavone families, Team Danielle is back and excited to participate in this year's Lustgarten Walk for Research in Westchester, NY on April 14th.  My family and I will be thrilled for you to join us at Westchester Community College.  Not only is it important to my family to raise money for this incredibly worthy cause, but it's equally important for us to gather and take time to honor and celebrate Danielle's life. We will be hosting a breakfast at the Team Danielle tent before the walk - email me for details!  It's hard to believe that in September 5 years have passed since I lost my sister Danielle Schiavone to pancreatic cancer.   It's well known that I wear my heart on my sleeve, so you are all aware of just how devastating this loss has been to me and my family. I think about Danielle every day and still can’t believe that she is no longer with us.  Not a day goes by when I don't have to contend with the reflex to call or text, to check in on Danielle, to see how she's feeling or to just replay and marvel at the latest craziness in the world. But alas, Danielle lost her battle against this horrific disease which ravaged her body, but never dampened her spirit. We would like to continue her fight and the best way to do that is by supporting Lustgarten.  What makes this year's walk so special for our family is that my daughter Gemma Kalt along with the rest of Team Danielle will be raising money and awareness as her mitzvah project for her Bat Mitzvah this June.

Pancreatic cancer accounts for just 3% of all cancers diagnosed in the United States each year, yet it is the third leading cause of cancer related deaths, and it is expected to become the second by 2030.  Lustgarten’s singular focus is improving patient outcomes.  Research is fundamental to making that a reality.  The comprehensive research program focuses on early detection and interception, therapeutic development, and personalized medicine so that they can bring the most cutting-edge science from the lab bench to the clinic, where it can be tested on patients, with the goal of giving patients a better quality of life and hope for a cure.  Lustgarten is leading the way in advancing the best science transform pancreatic cancer into a curable disease.  These breakthroughs are only possible because of generous support from the Lustgarten community.  Since they began this initiative in 1998, the five-year survival rate has more than tripled to 12%. Our generosity is helping make real progress but there is still much work to be done.

I want to thank everyone who has supported us in the past, we really appreciate it. If you are so kind to join me and my family as we continue my sisters fight against pancreatic cancer our Team Danielle site is now open at. I have also attached below the link to The Lustgarten 2023 Annual report.  Please look as they are doing some amazing things.

Thank you for your support and I hope you will join us in the fight for hope!
