Friday 3rd AprWe thought our first year of marriage would be filled with the usual newlywed milestones—building routines, dreaming about the future, and settling into the quiet joy of beginning a life together. After marrying the love of my life in May 2025, that’s exactly the kind of year my husband and I imagined.
Instead, just a few months later, our world shifted in a way we never could have prepared for.
It started with something simple—an annual physical. When my lab work came back with abnormal results, my doctor ordered a repeat test. When those numbers were still off, it led to an ultrasound, then a CT scan, and eventually a biopsy. In early October 2025, we received the diagnosis that would change everything: stage IV pancreatic cancer.
There’s no way to fully describe what it feels like to hear those words. The life you were just beginning to build suddenly feels uncertain. The plans you made together are replaced with appointments, treatments, and difficult conversations no one expects to have so soon.
For the past six months, I’ve been in treatment, undergoing chemotherapy as part of a clinical trial. It hasn’t been easy—there are hard days, exhausting days, and moments filled with fear. But there have also been moments of incredible strength, love, and hope.
Through it all, we’ve learned just how powerful a community can be. The support from friends, family, and even strangers has carried us in ways we never imagined. It’s a reminder that even in the darkest moments, we are not alone.
That’s why I’m participating in the Lustgarten Walk for Pancreatic Cancer Research. Organizations like the Lustgarten Foundation are working to fund the research that patients like me depend on. Pancreatic cancer is one of the most aggressive and underfunded cancers, often diagnosed late and with limited treatment options. Research is critical—not just for me, but for every person and family who will face this diagnosis in the future. More funding means more clinical trials, more breakthroughs, and more hope.
I am living proof of how important that research is. Being part of a clinical trial has given me access to treatment options that may not have otherwise been available. It has given me time, and hope, and a fighting chance.
