Team Rex

Our family is walking in the Lustgarten Pancreatic Cancer Research Walk in memory of someone incredibly special to us - Rex Moore.

Rex's journey with pancreatic cancer is one our family will never forget.

What began with health concerns and testing eventually led to the words no family ever wants to hear: pancreatic cancer. From there, life seemed to change so quickly. There were procedures, hospital visits, pain, sickness, weight loss, and so many unknowns. We watched someone we loved go through things we wished more than anything we could take away from him.

But through all of it, Rex was still Rex.

He was a husband, a dad, a father-in-law, a friend, and one of the most amazing Papas our children could have ever asked for. Cancer may have become part of his story, but it was never what defined him.

Eventually, our family had to make the heartbreaking transition to hospice care. We knew our time with him was becoming shorter, and we tried to soak up every moment we could. On July 18, 2025, Rex passed away surrounded by a family who loved him beyond words.

There is an emptiness left behind that is impossible to explain.

Our kids lost their Papa. His family lost someone who had been such an important part of our lives. There are so many moments ahead when we will wish he was standing beside us.

That is why we are walking.

We are walking for Rex.

We are walking for every family who has heard the words "pancreatic cancer."

We are walking because we want better treatments, earlier detection, more research, and most importantly, more time.

More birthdays.
More holidays.
More hugs.
More memories.
More time for another family to have their husband, dad, grandpa, or Papa beside them.

On September 27, our family will walk together in Cedar Rapids carrying Rex with us every step of the way.
