This past year has been incredibly challenging.
About 20 years ago after both of my uncles passed from pancreatic cancer, several of our family members participated in the Lustgarten Walk. That's where we realized this foundation was truly doing remarkable things. Unfortunately, this horrifyingly cruel disease has struck someone in my family recently, and feeling helpless was just unbearable. However, witnessing how many advancements have been made in early detection and treatment within the last 20 years has really inspired me to raise awareness and money for this charity. Throughout the grueling process of watching someone so close to me fight as hard as humanly possible, and hope and pray as he continues to fight the fight, I started running to stay healthy, clear my head, and it became a self care regimen for me to stay sane throughout this whole thing. Then I watched the runners last marathon, and felt so inspired. I thought maybe this could be a way to go big for my #1 guy, to show him we are fighting along with him, and support the very foundation that provides hope for us.
I've decided to run the TCS NYC Marathon to raise money and awareness, and thankfully Lustgarten accepted me to their team. I've never ran more than 10 miles in my life, but my goal is not time, it's to raise as much money as we can so we can further advance the clinical trials, cancer care, treatment and early detection to give a better chance at extending and saving lives.
Please help me support pancreatic cancer research, show the man who gave me life that we are right there with him, support so many of our friends and family affected by this disease, and provide hope that we will conquer this, one step at a time. My dad passed away
Friday 31st Oct Now the marathon will be a huge challenge cause I haven't had a chance to train since taking care of my dad. Hopefully he will carry me through, along with my uncles who passed from this. I don't have words to describe my sadness. Watching him suffer is a nightmare I can't escape but hopefully this Sunday will be positive and hope to have my dad with me every step of the way. Thank you so much for all of your support.
