Walking for Darrell: Why I Fight Pancreatic Cancer
Five years ago, my world changed forever. I lost my brother, Darrell Lee, to pancreatic cancer. He passed away just one year after his diagnosis. Watching him suffer was agonizing, and the void he left behind is impossible to fill. I miss him terribly every single day.
This year, I am turning my grief into action by participating in the pancreatic cancer walk. Here is why this walk matters so much to me, and why we need your support.
To Honor Darrell’s Memory
Darrell was a vital part of my life. Walking allows me to keep his memory alive and celebrate the time we had together. Every step I take is a tribute to his life, his strength, and the love we shared as siblings. He is no longer here to fight, so I am fighting in his honor.
To Change the Statistics
Pancreatic cancer is one of the deadliest forms of cancer. It is often detected late, leaving patients with limited treatment options. Darrell only survived one year after finding out he was sick. This rapid timeline is tragically common. We need better toolkits for early detection so other families do not have to watch their loved ones slip away so quickly.
To Fund Lifesaving Research
The funds raised from this walk go directly toward medical research. Scientists are working hard to develop more effective treatments and, ultimately, a cure. By raising money, we are funding the breakthroughs that Darrell did not get to benefit from. Your donations help give future patients a fighting chance.
To Build a Support Community
No one should have to face this devastating disease alone. This walk brings together survivors, families, and advocates who understand the unique pain of pancreatic cancer. Walking alongside people who share this experience provides a powerful sense of community, healing, and hope.
How You Can Help
I cannot do this alone, and I need your support to make a difference. You can join my efforts in two ways:
- Donate to my walk page: Every dollar helps fund critical research and patient support services.
- Share this post: Spread the word to raise awareness about the signs and symptoms of pancreatic cancer.
Thank you for helping me honor Darrell and fight for a future without pancreatic cancer.
